Disappointing Product: Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation

Hello muffins! I hope you all have an exciting or relaxing weekend planned! I will be working and doing school stuff because this semester is almost over! YAY :)

Anyway, I have a disappointing product here and I am disappointed in myself that I am disappointed with it (got all that?). I really wanted to love this foundation because I had heard a lot of great things from other bloggers and YouTubers. When I picked this up, I was looking for a light foundation and I thought this would be the one.
Sadly though, it has some drawbacks. I find it extremely watery. I have tried shaking it and mixing it with moisturizer, but nothing seems to help the consistency. Maybe it is just my bottle but I can not seem to make it work for me. The colour is good, and the packaging is fine but the foundation is just too liquidy for me. Oh well.
I won't repurchase this any time soon, but it won't scare me away from other Revlon products because they are one of my favourite drugstore brands. It just happens to be the this one was a flop for me.

Have you recently had a product disappoint you?

Questions from: Yasmeen of Tales of Your Typical Average Girl

1. What is the one of the things that makes you the happiest?
Sleeping in. I usually have one day a week that I can sleep until 10:00am or 11:00am, and I love those days!

2. Why did you start a blog?
It was a long time coming. I read a lot of blogs and I find it relaxing, and I always had my own comments and opinions that I wanted to get out there. So, I finally just did it!

3. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?
England and Paris. Those are the two places that I want to go to the most. Europe in general would be ideal, but we will start with those.
4 1/2 year anniversary

4. Whats your favourite ice cream flavour?
Chocolate. By a mile.

5. What do you look for in a partner? (girlfriend or boyfriend)
Respect. Respect encompasses loyalty and honesty, but I think it is important that both partners understand each other and respect who they are.

6. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, then which ones.
Oh man. A bunch! The Backstreet Boys was the first! More recently, we went to Bonnaroo, which is a music festival in the States, and Bluesfest, another music festival that is local. I love concerts and always try to go see Mother Mother when they come to my town (favourite band).

7. If you could have one wish, what would you spend it on?
More wishes? Haha. Wouldn't you?!

8. How many siblings do you have?
None. Or do cats and teddy bears count?

9. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Hopefully married and in our house with kids. Being happy and fulfilled.
mmm. Foooooood.

10. Are you happy?
Generally, yes. I have a lot to be thankful for and it is easy to forget what you have when life gets in the way. Not happy when I have to wake up at 6:00am though.

11. Whats your favourite meal of the day? (Breakfast, lunch or dinner).
Lunch. I don’t usually have breakfast (I know! That’s bad!). Lunch is just great cause you can have breakfast food or dinner food and it is acceptable!

1. Pringles or Oreos?
Pringles. Wait., Pringles. Ahh I can’t decide!

2. If you could travel back in time, when and where would you go?
I think I would go back to my childhood, only to look back on my younger life as I am today  (a "semi" adult), and seeing my parents in their “hippie” days would be good for a laugh!

Sylvester the cat (google images)

3. Which famous character (real or fictional) would you cook dinner for?
Sylvester the cat from Looney Tunes (cartoon) because he is my favourite and he was always being undermined by Tweety. I loves him.

4. ... And what would you prepare?
Dinner would be easy! Cat food, which I already have. Easy peasy, haha. Or a nice fish ?

5. If you could change your hair colour for 24 hours, which colour would you pick?
Platinum Blonde! Just because, why not? I would love to know how it would feel.

6. Name something that brightens up your day.
The rare moments that my cat Diamond actually acknowledges my existence and willingly snuggles for a minute. It’s a beautiful thing!

The Most Used & Abused

These are the products that I have used and abused! They are the ones that I use all the time or the ones I go to frequently. They have proven to be troopers and reliable friends, so here is my honourable salute to them!

Mac Studio Fix Powder Foundation in "N5"
Kabuki Brush

As you can see, I have EPICALLY hit pan on my Mac Studio Fix powder foundation compact. I use this all the time! I love it so much and am holding on to this destroyed package to remind myself to pick up another one. It is pricy but totally worth the money! I have used it on bus rides to school when I woke up late, or when I sleep away from home because it is so convenient and provides good coverage with matte protection. I highly recommend this product!

I have had this Kabuki brush forever. I do not even know who it is by because the name has been rubbed off from continual use. I suspect it was from Tarte but I am not completely sure. I think having a good, durable and small brush is important for anyone who uses mineral, loose, or pressed powers because they apply easily and the hairs are so soft. Love it. Use it pretty much everyday.

Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream in "Light/Medium"
Rimmel Hide the Blemish Concealer in "002 Sand"

I have a love/hate relationship with Garnier. I have had success with their skin products, and this BB Cream is actually a little bit amazing. Similarly, with the Mac Studio Fix compact, I have quickly applied this on a commute if I was running late. I know it to be a reliable product with no fuss, which makes it perfect for on the go makeup or just easy convenience. The cream is light and refreshing with a dewy finish and the colour matches seamlessly. I really love this BB Cream and I think it is my primary favourite.

This concealer from Rimmel has been in my purse for years! It is like the concealer that never ends! I picked it up out of desperation while travelling Europe (3-4 years ago). Somehow, it has not dried out or gotten weird, and still applies like butter. I like that it is hydrating and provides pretty sturdy coverage. I use it for emergency blemishes or to cover dark under eyes. I love it and it will continue to be a staple in my bag.

The Body Shop Brow & Lash Gel
PurMinerals Brow Brush

My Body Shop clear brow gel is looking a little worse for wear now (not so clear anymore), but still gets the job done. It is great for keeping my brows in place and although the clear packaging shows the discolouration from transfer of brow powder, it doesn't affect the way the gel holds the hairs in place. Great product overall.

My PurMinerals brow pencil was featured in my previous FOTD post about my everyday makeup because I really do use it everyday. The writing is starting to rub off but the bristles are still strong and straight. They pick up the right amount of powder and apply it with accuracy along the eyebrow. I love how powder fills in brows a little bit more naturally, so I use it almost everyday.

Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker Lip Balm
Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in "095 Creme Brule"

Ahh, the lip balm of my childhood. We used to have Coke and Dr. Pepper flavoured lip balms when we were kids and I found this gem at a Rexall Pharmacy a while ago and was so excited! I never remember having chapped lips as a kid and perhaps that's because I was addicted to these Lip Smackers! I keep this in my coat pocket, especially in the winter, because it is super moisturizing and smells/tastes so good, haha. And it is affordable! So why not!?

Revlon's Lip Butters are great. Everyone knows this. I have the neutral shade "Creme Brule" which is wonderful as a nice, light formula on the lips. I don't find that the colour washes me out or makes my lips look invisible, which some neutral shades can do. I think it would be flattering on any skin tone, and adds some subtle shine

Hope you enjoyed seeing my used & abused favourite products!

What's one of your most abused items?

FOTD: Everyday Makeup

Today was just a regular Tuesday school day, but I thought it would be fun to do an "Everyday Makeup" face-of-the-day! I like to keep it light and neutral on days when I'm in class a lot, so this is what I usually go for! Enjoy!

My favourite moisturizer by Korres Wild Rose.
HD Primer by Make Up Forever, which is nice and light.
And a new favourite, Revlon Face Illuminator to brighten the face in a really nice and subtle way.

My go to foundation by Bourjois Healthy Mix - I usually use a foundation sponge just because I think it applies lighter than a brush.
BEST mineral powder: Amazonian Clay by Tarte.

I like this Laguna bronzer by Nars because it is pretty matte and not shimmery which can sometimes be too overdone on school days.

Naked Basics Palette
Base: Walk of Shame - matte beige colour to even out the eyelid
Inner Corners: Venus - metallic pearl colour to highlight
Outer & Crease: the shade Faint for some shadowing
Eyeshadow BrushMac 217

Eyelash Curler: very old but reliable curler from Tarte
Mascara: Make Up Forever Extra Black
Eyeliner: Kat Von D Brown pencil - neutral brown colour to thicken the lash lines without making them too dramatic

Naked Basics Palette: shade Faint
PurMinerals Brow brush: this brush is great because the bristle are corse and separate the hairs to deposit the powder evenly

An old favourite by NYX Whipped Caviar lipstick - my go to 'my-lips-but-better' shade

Hope you had a great Tuesday!

What's your go to everyday makeup product?

Thanks for hanging out!

Venetian Masquerade Event

Hello muffins! On Wednesday night, Zach and I attended a Venetian Masquerade themed charity event put on by my friend and co-worker whose college assignment it was to make this event with no budget! They had NO money to use and relied on donations in order to create the whole thing!
The event was in name of the Children's Wish Foundation, which is a wonderful organization that helps grant wishes to sick kids and gives them the chance to just be carefree, playful kids.

There was a silent auction, and dance/circus performances by local groups. The food was great and the decor was amazing! I am seriously impressed with how well everything came together and we had a really fun time!

Blog Your Heart Out TAG

Hello wonderful muffins!
Livia from All Beauty Confessions tagged me to do the "Blog Your Heart Out" Tag - so here it is!
1. Who/what encouraged you to start blogging?
I watch ALOT of YouTube beauty and fashion people and read ALOT of blogs. Probably more than is healthy. I always found myself commenting on the products people were featuring and just thought "maybe I'll put my opinion out there too." It was a long time coming since I have been planning to start a blog for a while, so I just went for it!

2. How did you choose what topics to blog about?
I have sooo many makeup and beauty products that I feel bad for them just sitting there when not in use, so featuring them on this blog is kind of a way for me to justify the sheer amount of products I have, haha. But I really love this whole big world of beauty and the feeling of trying new things! Now, I always check various blogs for reviews on products I want to try before I go out and buy them, so I hope to help other people make a decision too!

3. What is something most people don't know about you?
I am a massive procrastinator! More so when it comes to things I don't like. I could write on here all day, everyday, but ask me to write another 12-15page paper on the history of blah blah blah - you better believe I am trying to do it all the night before it is due!

4. What three words describe your style?
Relaxed (lazy..), comfortable, and usually not matching. I am almost done my degree at university so it has been a long few years of sweatpants, yoga pants, and buns. BUT when I'm not looking like death warmed up, I like to wear things that I am comfortable in but still stylish. Like, a flowy dress or shirt. I went too long trying to follow trends that just weren't right for me and that made me self-conscious. So now I wear good-looking things that make me feel good, and in turn, make me confident. Confidence is the best kind of style.

5. What do you love to do when you are not blogging?
Like I said. YouTube = unhealthy obsession. I like to watch TV and movies and hang out with my cat who hates me. I would like to say go outside and explore, but it's so cold now that I just wrap up in a blanket and snuggle. I like snuggling.

I hope you enjoyed this little TAG!
Big thanks again to Livia from All Beauty Confessions for tagging me!

I tag ALL OF YOU! (Anyone who reads this!)
Have fun :)

Thanks for hanging out!

Mini Drugstore Makeup Haul

I went to Shoppers Drugmart to take advantage of a 20x the points coupon I received!!
They have the Optimum card which is a loyalty card that gets you points with purchase that are redeemable for money off at certain points levels. So whenever 20x the points rolls around, I try and take a look for anything that might be new and interesting!

Revlon ColourBurst Matte Balm "Showy"

I have heard all over the beauty internet world about the Revlon ColourBurst Matte Balm's and finally picked one up in the shade Showy. The packaging looks darker than the actual colour, which when applied is a gorgeous hot pink. I think this shade can be worn on all skin types as it can be a universally flattering colour.
AND, the formulation is actually amazing! As a matte lip product I expected it to be somewhat drying, yet I was pleasantly surprised that after a few hours of wear my lips weren't dying for moisture! I guess the 'balm' part of it really works! Overall, I love these matte balms and can't wait to try some more shades; I think this one will be great for Spring!

Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish "14 Rossetto"

Furthering the lip trend, I got another Kate Moss Lasting Finish lipstick, this one in the shade 14 Rossetto. These were on sale and I already have three other shades that I love. The thing that makes these lipsticks great is the texture and feel of them. They are super smooth and smell really good; like Jolly Ranchers candy! I already know I like these lipsticks so I got this nude one to add to my collection. This nude is more on the taupe side than pink, which I like because it does not wash me out. It is a very wearable, everyday lipstick and the price is right for the formula you get. This one will be going directly in my purse for the foreseeable future!

Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer "002"

Another item I picked up was the Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer in 002. This claims to: smooth, resurface, brighten, mattify, and protect. I was debating between this primer and their other Matte Primer. I ended up choosing this one because I was looking for a primer that specifically brightened while also mattifying - since this one claims to do both I decided to give it a go.
I applied it once under my foundation and was impressed with the texture and how soft it felt on my skin. I think it is too early to tell if it is working miracles on my face, but at first glance, it has made my foundation last longer and my skin still feels smooth
I will continue to use this primer and see how it goes!

Rimmel Match Perfection 2-in-1 Concealer & Highlighter "125 Fair"

(product blended on the right)

Continuing with Rimmel products - this is their Match Perfection 2-in-1 Concealer & Highlighter in the shade 125 Fair. It has a brush application and you squeeze the packaging in order to dispense the product. I don't know how I feel about the brush thing yet as I am used to the doe foot applicators, but we will see. I think the colour is good for me, and on first use it provided good coverage and blended surprisingly well. I've been wearing it for a few hours now and no signs of slipping or caking, which is great!
I was looking for a new concealer and was intrigued with the 'highlighting' aspect of this one. I look forward to using it some more!

Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator "100 Bare Light"

(product blended on the right)

It must be because Spring is hopefully coming soon, since I purchased yet another brightening product! This is the Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator in 100 Bare Light. I got this to wear as a base or mix with my foundation because I feel like my skin is getting dull during this never ending winter! I am excited to try this with my foundation as it looks like a subtle way to add some light to my pale face. I have swatched it on my hand multiple times and quite like the way it shimmers in the sunlight - not overwhelmingly I should add, but more pretty than scary shiny.

I just realized at the end of writing this post that all the products I got were either from Revlon or Rimmel! oops, haha. That's okay, they are both great and affordable brands with a good reputation for doing makeup well.

I hope you enjoyed this mini drugstore haul!

Have you tried any Revlon ColourBurst Balms? Would you recommend any other shades?

Thanks for hanging out!
